Horsehair Pottery Vase

This one-of-a-kind handmade horsehair pottery vase combines organic markings, earthy color, and dramatic surface texture to create a distinctive piece of ceramic art.

The vase is low-fired and individually decorated using cobalt, ferric chloride, horsehair, and feathers. When the horsehair and feathers contact the hot ceramic surface, they create unpredictable black lines, smoky impressions, and delicate organic patterns. Ferric chloride adds warm amber, rust, and golden-brown tones, while cobalt introduces subtle cooler accents that contrast beautifully with the natural surface.

Because horsehair and feather decoration is created directly on the hot pottery, no two pieces can ever be exactly alike. The markings, color variations, and surface effects are created by both the artist and the firing process, making this vase truly one of a kind.
